Personality & Traits
General Overview | Tormek is a career KDF officer and the only child of two retired council administrators. His own life, however, brought him through a different path, one he forged through Klingon Academy in order to explore the stars and achieve honor for himself and his kin. He has embraced the spacefaring lifestyle as a true warrior and now seeks new opportunity and glory wherever it can be found. He is brash, smart and calculating while simultaneously ambitious and somewhat unorthodox in his methods. Tormek is pleasant enough to his fellow shipmates but doesn't prioritize personal relationships over his own duties and responsibilities. Some might perceive his demeanor as cold at times, but his loyalty toward his crew is always apparent. He can be curt and dismissive to those who he doesn't respect, but accommodating to those who have demonstrated their commitment to the task at hand. He possesses a short temper and can be impatient at times, and he does not tolerate the incompetent.
Strengths & Weaknesses | Tormek is a talented tactician who displays exceptional aptitude for spacial awareness, maneuvering and positioning, and weapons employment. He also possesses a strong academic foundation alongside a willingness to critically evaluate and process new information when it's presented to him. Two decades of service within the KDF has made him mentally resilient to most forms of placation, and he thoroughly embraces the timeless concepts of duty and honorable service to the Empire. He is also a skilled administrator capable of overseeing daily operations with an iron fist and able to motivate even the most nonchalant warriors to achieve personal glory. He believes all Klingons have a place in the afterlife and continually works to reserve his own in Sto-vo-kor. Despite formal education in the sciences and technical matters of starship operation, Tormek is neither a proficient observer nor a skilled engineer. He struggles to conceptualize the greater meaning behind scientific discoveries nor does he possess the intellectual curiosity to want to understand. Engineering and mechanical functions are too complex and mundane for him. He privately views both professions as 'beneath' the true calling of a warrior. The concepts of hard work, honesty, and dedication were instilled in him since birth then reinforced throughout his childhood and in the Academy. It's all he knows, and as such, he is not accepting of any lesser personal conduct regardless of the circumstances. He has a short temper which often rears its head at inopportune moments. Languages beyond Federation Standard and Klingon are outside of his knowledge and he lacks advanced training (and the desire) to understand many topics in the science and medical fields. |
|
Ambitions | One day, Tormek will lead his own noble house to become a Great House and secure his position within the Great Hall on Qo'noS as one of the most influential warriors in the galaxy. Perhaps one day, he may even become Chancellor of the Empire.
Hobbies & Interests | Tormek is a connoisseur of Klingon opera, specifically Gav'ot toH'va and the works of the famous singer TobQoq. Though he is not an aspiring musician, Tormek possesses an aptitude for tone and harmony and practices his own opera in private. He has also acquired a liking for the Federation sport of basketball due to its physical nature, and enjoys competing against slower and smaller Humans. |
Personal History | Tormek was born late in the year of 2350 in the primary administrative district of First City on Qo'noS. Surrounded by a large and dense Klingon metropolis, his family's home was located in a privileged section of the Klingon capitol where the Great Houses, feudal elites and their support staff resided. He is the only child born to his parents B'ceiK and Talor, both council members within the high courts. Tormek spent his entire youth within First City while adopting a planetary upbringing. As a vibrant young Klingon, he enjoyed a most traditional lifestyle focusing on the core concepts of strength, honor and glory. When he came of age, Tormek was faced with the difficult decision to follow his parents' path as a politician or forge his own as a warrior. Both lines would take him to different destinations in his future -- permanently. On the one hand, the life of a First City administrator was comfortable and reaped the rewards of wealth and prestige. It was also the most direct path to gaining influence within the Empire and becoming a prominent figurehead within the High Council. Yet on the other hand, the true test of one's self-worth was to become a warrior. There was no easier way to achieve personal honor and glory than by joining the ranks of those who came before him and honored the traditions of Kahless. The decision was difficult but ultimately clear for young Tormek. The warrior's way would be his future, and eventually, his death. Tormek was raised as an educated Klingon and applied for an officer position at Klingon Academy in 2368. At the age of 18, he was denied initial entry in favor of other candidates who hailed from more...influential families. He reapplied the following year in 2369 and was offered a conditional slot on the understanding that if he could not compete with the more talented (wealthy) and capable (prestigious) cadets from the other houses, then he would be permanently dismissed. Tormek gambled on himself and accepted the deal knowing he would have to perform beyond reproach to avoid the life he did not desire. And so he did. The four years of study and practical application at Klingon Academy honed Tormek into a knife's edge. He discovered his aptitude for spacial awareness, combat intelligence and tactics, and most importantly, grand strategy. He was among the few all-time graduates to conceptualize a hypothetical war with the Federation, manage all assets, and achieve a simulated 70% projected victory rate in all major engagements. His skills of reading, military intellectualism and writing led him to publish several tactical works during his final year at the academy. It was no surprise when graduated, much to his detractors' chagrin. Tormek had proved himself to be an asset to the Klingon Defense Force and a valuable officer within the future ranks. Upon graduation from the finest warship academy in the galaxy, he was assigned to immediate duty aboard an active B'rel-class bird-of-prey as a tactical officer. |
