| General Overview | Lieutenant Nishikino hails from a healthy and highly reputable line of doctors, stemming back to her Great-Great Grandfather, Doctor Yamato Nishikino. As an only child (and, much to that end, the sole inheritor of her family's fortune), her entire life has revolved around the medical industry. In spite of the fact that she's been doted upon by her parents and given just about everything she could've asked for, she's never been given any long-term freedom in regards to her destiny. She respects her parents and doesn't question their expectations, but the immense pressure to live up to their standards has made her something of a nervous wreck deep down, unable to be fully truthful to others when it comes to her feelings. She can oftentimes become incredibly fussy when pried about her feelings, making her come off to others as a standoffish loner. Such qualities have earned her the affectionate nickname of "Bones," after one of Starfleet's most notoriously cantankerous medical officers. As a result of her sheltered upbringing, Lieutenant Nishikino does harbor some childish beliefs, such as the perceived existence of Santa Claus. In spite of the logistical fact that she does not always receive Christmas presents from Santa- especially now that she's a Starfleet Officer- her official reasoning is that Santa is an Earth-based entity, who does not space-faring capabilities. When presented with evidence that Santa might not exist, she tends to get fussy, which only leads to further teasing, so she tends to keep discussions about Santa to a minimum. In many regards it is this combination of family pride, coupled with her sheltered upbringing, that lends to a bit of a stubborn streak. Having lived and breathed a career in medicine for as long as she can remember, she genuinely believes she speaks from a point of wisdom, so she can become quite upset when patients disobey her orders as a Doctor. She does not like for her medical expertise to be treated as a "polite suggestion," especially when it's something she's been conditioned for from the moment she could retain a thought, so to that end she can be very strict and unbending when it comes to Doctor's Orders. Unfortunately, this has the adverse side effect of enforcing her patients' belief that she's a standoffish crank. On a more private level, Lieutenant Nishikino has quietly been struggling with homosexuality since she was a teenager. Not that she is necessarily afraid of others lashing out at her, but more so because she's afraid of disappointing her parents by failing to produce an heir. Her love life has been in a bit of a holding pattern for the better part of 15 years, but she's secretly holding out hope that one day she can sort her feelings out and finally settle down. |

| Ambitions | Lieutenant Nishikino's biggest ambition is the one she's been groomed for since birth- to inherit the Nishikino Medical University and satellite clinics in and around the greater Tokyo Metropolitan Area. It's an inheritance that comes with a great deal of responsibility, and Lieutenant Nishikino has certainly felt the immense pressure of those responsibilities over the course of her lifetime, but to her, this is the only destiny she has ever known; it's practically a second nature to her. On a more personal level, once Lieutenant Nishikino comes to grips with where she stands in regards to her homosexuality, she does yearn to settle down one day- with a man or a woman, who truly knows at this point? She's just hoping she'll find that special someone who'll pave the way for lifetime of happiness. |
