| Personal History | Sarah ferch Iorwerth (later Sydney ap Iorwerth) was born in Tenby, Wales with an older brother, Owen and stay-at-home dad Iorwerth and postwoman Ffydd. They had an apartment above a cafe across from the beach, where Sarah’s love of surfing and the ocean would develop into a career path. By 16, Sarah had left school and was attending college. She didn’t feel like a she anymore, she felt like a he and would try to fight it but in the end, the bottled feelings exploded and by 18, Sydney broke free. Both of his parents were supporting and caring as any parent should be. Sydney had dreams of being the expert on the ocean and the only want to be the expert was to join an exploration organisation like Starfleet. He would meet Ugandnese command & control cadet, Subrahmanya Regenbogen who was part of the surfing club and Sydeny joined as a sort of “notice me”. Although, they argued constantly during their relationship but never made up, took breaks or separated. Cadet Subrahmanya had become the Deputy Head of the surfing team but because the relationship with his boyfriend was toxic, he left the team and the role was offered to Sydney. When they graduated Starfleet, with the cold war they remained boyfriends and never kept in contact. Syd served aboard the USS Andromeda, Sovereign class as a biologist though there was little exploration; he still spent days in the research lab researching eating bacteria. This is where his first paper was thought, written and published. “Flesh eating bacteria. Away Teams should be wary.” When the war was won a simple award and promotion or serving, he didn’t feel like he had earned it since he didn’t do much but research enemy weapons. He stayed on Andromeda after the war for 3 months before Starfleet brass ordered a personal review of the starship… Sydney wasn’t selected to remain aboard much to his disappointment, he wanted to stay because that's where his friends was or were. He was transferred to R&D on Earth, which suited him fine, he could continue his work of ocean study there. His work load consisted of reviewing ocean scans sent from Starships and advising them on what they had found, to some it was viewed as boring but it allowed Syd to gain more experience. Syd fellow researcher, a Marine Biologist by the name of T’Pekl (F, Vulcan) who worked as deputy head of the department became head of the department and wanted someone who would have the best managing and scientific experience for the role… Unfortunately, Fak Kaf (M, Boilan) was leaving service and Sydney was the last option. His role had him overseeing the duty roster and people's research. But he still had time to continue his own research. However in ‘83, the department went under during T’Pekl leadership, despite giving the option to resign she refurbished and was dismissed, Sydney was acting Chiefbut wanted to run the whole thing permanently. He knew where things went wrong and what needed to be done… His boyfriend returned to Earth and they both made love before continuing their crusade against each. Syd was told he was unsuccessful in his application to head the department, that they was hiring outside the team. But the person they selected withdrew their commitment and the race was back on… Syd put his name down and after months they selected him… However whilst waiting to get back, he discovered he was pregnant. When his son was born, his boyfriend didn’t return although acknowledging it was his. Sydney didn’t take parental leave, he still carried on bringing his newborn son into work with him. The first act was to fix the messes he advised against during T’Pekl headship. The team was rebuffed, they were allowed to leave Earth and perform research on alien worlds. They made minor discoveries. However after 7 years, Sydney was reassigned without any warning or explanation. Syd now worked in space, something he had done since the war took place, it was an old research station that he was given command of. The exploration was completed in this sector, so he quickly understood he would be a “safe pair of hands” while Starfleet prepared to dismantle the outpost. Though trying to make it work, he and his team explored the known sector of space and re did old experiments. Finally the orders came through. The outpost would be dismantled and it’s people re-assigned. Sydney wanted to return to Earth, in fact he submitted an application for his old job but they weren’t looking… Something new, he had orders to Head the R&D on the new alliance starbase… Something he looked really excited for, but didn’t want to make a noise incase Stafleet sent the wrong person and he had to go elsewhere. |
