Mission: Midnight

There was the dazzling lights as the transporter room of the ship melted away and he was left standing on the transporter pad of his new assignment; Frontier Station.

"Good morning Lieutenant... William... Neil..." He slowed down and realized very quickly that the transport officer had been mid-yawn for a few seconds. That was unexpected.

"Lieutenant William Neil, reporting for duty." He said again as the transporter officer finally stopped yawning.

"Really sorry sir, it's been a rough night for all involved. Welcome aboard." The young man said groggily. "I believe the captain has requested you to meet her in her ready room once you're settled." The words were barely out of his mouth before his jaw seemed to lock open in another epic yawn.

"Just have my things transporter right to my quarters. I'll go see the Captain right away." William replied quizzically. What the hell was he getting himself into?

The young man didn't break the yawn but did manage a nod which William took as understanding.

Taking a brisk pace, William left to go meet the Captain and get up to speed on what was happening.

Kagami sat in her office, there was something wrong about this whole situation. However she still had work to do. Right now the Sonno were happy and catered for. She was due to meet them later in the morning once they had finished the 'free time' they had requested on the galleria.

Shuffling through her paperwork, she remembered that her new chief of operations and logistics was due to arrive this morning.

He couldn't help but notice everyone he passed seemed to be running on fumes. William quickened his pace until he got to the Captain's office and pressed the chime.

"Yeah, come in" Kagami called.

Entering the office, William stood proper for a moment. "Lieutenant William Neil reporting sir."

He took in the Captain's appearance and frowned a little. "Looks like everyone had a late night sir, did I miss my own welcome party?"

"It would seem no one got any sleep last night." Kagami said. She pointed over to the replicator. "Help yourself to coffee, I'll take one too. Stronger the better." She instructed him.

William grinned and with a nod headed over to the replicator. "Two coffee, dark roast, strong."

The replicator hummed to life and after a blue shimmer, two steaming cups of coffee materialized in the alcove. William picked them up and walked back over to the Captain's desk.

He placed one cup closer to the Captain and then took the seat across from her and crossed one leg over the other as he took a sip from his own cup.

"No one slept?" William asked quietly. "That doesn't seem natural at all. I guess this means I know where to direct my attention this morning."

"It would seem so," Kagami said. "I've got our CMO on the case. You should check in with her to be cleared for duty." She added as she took the coffee and took a sip, the deep taste relieving her slightly. "So, what do you know about Frontier?"

"Impressive station, a joint venture by the federation and the Klingons." William grinned a little as he sat down and sipped his coffee. "A one of a kind exploratory and defensive venture."

"Oh, right." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small carved wooden cat. "This is for you. Wood carving is a hobby of mine."

"Thanks." Kagami said with a small smile. "Have you ran Operations of a Starbase before?" she asked.

William shook his head, but smiled. "No, this will be a first. My previous posting was on the Venturer. But don't worry, I've got my ways of getting things working and getting the job done."

"I see," Kagami replied. "Well, luckily this isn't exactly a huge starbase. But take your time to find your feet."

"Well sir, hopefully I can find my feet and help with this station-wide insomnia before I get affected and fall over myself."

"If there's nothing else sir, I'll see where I can lend a hand." William said as he stood up from his chair.

Kagami nodded. "Take a good luck around. Contact the XO if you need any help." She added. "Dismissed."
