Mission:
Midnight
Location: Various
Most of Kagami's days were spent in her office. Her presence wasn't always needed in Main Operations, so often she found herself working and managing daily affairs from her desk. The role of Captaining a starbase was far more admin heavy than that of a Starship. She knew this from day one, and it was not much different from her time teaching at Starfleet Academy.
===Main Ops===
Thorillo walked about Operations, he nodded at the various Starfleet and Defence Force officers working at their consoles. It has been relatively peaceful as of late, which Thor was okay with, he wasn't always glory-seeking, and so he occasionally inspected the starbase readouts.
Klingon interface was so different to Starfleet lcars, he had some training on the system, but it was crude, so he often stared at the readouts for a little too long and grinned at the Starfleet officer who looked at him. "Carry on," he said at that moment.
Beeping came from sensors.
"Sir, our scanners are picking up an unidentified anomaly in the vicinity of the station," one of the Ops Officers reported. "Bearing 301, Mark 45, Distance estimated to be about 13,000 miles and closing; do you think we should notify Captain Izumi?"
"Not yet, Lieutenant Ki'ana, full sensor sweep of the anomaly," Thor called as he went to the hologram table in the middle of Operations where the results of Ki'ana's scan will appear. He'd wait for the officer's explanation of the results as well.
"Aye; sir. Give me a moment..." Ki'ana's slender hands flew over the controls; what she saw on screen seemed to surprise her. "Sir. The anomaly seems to be... some kind of warp signature. Of a type not currently in our database." She reported, glancing up from the screen with eyes wide. "It is possible that there may be another vessel of the same origin in the vicinity,"
An unknown warp signature? Thor sighed, the Empire wasn't really into non-interference rule that Starfleet is, nor the need to make a big deal out of First Contact situations. He nodded at Ki'ana for her report. "Thank you and continue to track them," he reached across his chest and pressed his communicator that was attached to his sleeve, he put his Starfleet combadge below the Defence Force one. =/\= "Thorillo to Izumi, you will want to come to Ops," =/\= he said and waited till he heard that their guests had arrived.
Kagami stepped out of her office and made her way down the the main level of Operations. "What have we got?" she asked simply.
"Cycling through a few different comm frequencies to see if we can establish contact with them," the Ops officer from earlier reported. "No guarantees if we'll get a response, but even if we do, we may not be able to understand them if the universal translator can't process their dialect..."
"Is there some other forms of communication we can try?" Thor asked, "should standard ways fail."
The Ops Officer shrugged. "There's a few options. but all of the hinge around the Universal Translator's ability to register their dialect," he replied. "If their phonics vary too much from traditional speech patterns, there's a possibility of the device's misinterpreting of what they're saying."
Marina arrived in Ops just in time, she’d sensed something approaching and was on her way to mention it, although it seemed there was no need now.
The room fell silent for a few tense moments before the Ops officer's eyes lit up.
"I got something!" he called out excitedly. "Putting it up on screen now:"
The viewscreen lit up and was filled with the image of a Human looking alien, however he had ridges around his eyebrows and ears. This was a species that Kagami had never seen before, and the fact it had come from far outside of Federation space could mean one thing and one thing only. First Contact.
"Hello." Kagami said softly. "I am Captain Kagami Izumi of the United Federation of Planets." she looked over at Thorillo, giving him a look that basically said 'Introduce yourself here!'.
Thor sighed and turned to the viewer. "Greetings from the Klingon Empire, I am Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander Thorillo Son of Drej. Welcome to Frontier Station." He gave a toothy grin.
The man on the screen smiled. "I am Minister Kasa of the Sonno." he replied. "We have come a great distance to explore rumours of your great Empire and Federation. We are hoping to open communications and trade." He stated.
"Well, we'd be more than happy to discuss that possibility." Kagami said. "Please feel free to dock, I'll have one of my officers send you the docking co-ordinates." Kagami said with a smile.
"Thankyou Captain Kagami Izumi." Kasa said in response. "We look forward to exploring your great station." With that the viewscreen cut off turning blank once again.
Kagami turned to Thorillo. "Looks like we have guests for dinner..."
"It is wise to still be weary of new arrivals, Captain," Thor replied but nodded. "Yes, perhaps a mixed fest?" He grinned.
“I didn’t sense any deception from our guests, although they are as wary of us as we are of them” Marina offered a smile. “Permission to accompany you to greet our guests Captain?”
A fest sounded great, any excuse to eat and drink was good in his book. Thor nodded back at Marina for her insight on the Sonno, at least they could monitor how many of them come aboard since ships don't actually physically dock. Crews have to use transporters to board and disembark, or shuttles if ill-equipped.
"By all means come along Counselor." Kagami said with a smile as she began towards the turbolift.
He grinned. "Well I have some arrangements to be made, unless there is anything else?" Thor asked his Captain.
"We'll take them to the briefing lounge for now. Then we'll get this going in the right direction." Kagami said clearly excited for the First Contact. "I think you should come too Commander. As the Empire's representative."
Thor nodded, "yes Captain," he replied, his fest arrangements will have to wait a little longer. He palmed his KDF communicator. =/\= Thor to Vep Ka and Vok'ka, please meet me in transporter room 1 to meet our guests, I'd like your insights.=/\= He called softly. "Shall we?" He gestured for Kagami, himself and Marina to head off.
Kagami nodded she was already in her way to the turbolift. "It's not everyday you get to make first contact."
“That’s very true” Marina smiled as she followed on to the turbolift. “This is going to be interesting to say the least.”
Waiting a reply from the Intel Connection from Both the Empire and her tentative connection to Federation via the station communications network.
VepKa had been in Stellar Cartography, the first detection of the Alien ship inbound. Rushing down here to get the data of observations by the Federation Equipment which is more sensitive in detection.
=^= VepKa acknowledge, I am on my way.=^= She replied as she close the connection to her network data exchange, and quickly exited to make the Transporter meeting.
"A first contact..." the Ops Officer muttered to himself as the turbolift doors shut behind him. "I've never been in a first contact situation before..."
===Transporter Room 1===
Thor stood in front of the operator's station and glanced over at the rest of his colleagues. "Ready?" He asked.
Marina nodded. “As I’ll ever be.” She smiled warmly.
The doors parted as VepKa strode into the Transporter Room clad in her Minidress with chainmail over dress and other Klingon protective adornments. The Disruptor on her right side and customized painstick in a custom extendable staff chassis in a thigh sheath upon her left leg. Hair loosed with the more, eye liner and eyeshadow worthy of a female Klingon warrior, Dagger in each of the knee high Klingon combat wear.
"No configuration reports from Intel sources from each Government through the shared connection." VepKa announced as she took a place on the opposite side of the Captain. "Good day Master, Lieutenant Kelea." She greet in hindsight.
“Hello Lieutenant” Marina nodded politely as she stood waiting to leave.
"Good day to you both," Thor replied with a toothy grin. He nodded to Vep Ka regarding her report, he'd have to check with the operations officer to see if they were able to scan the Sonno's vessel, his thoughts were interrupted by the transporter operator calling out that their guests were incoming.
The usual sound of the Federation transporter was heard and gone in moments. The Sonno delegation stood on the platform and clearly looking around in wonder or surprise, Thor wasn't sure. Did the Sonno have transporter technology? He mused.
He stepped forward. "I am First Officer Thorillo Son of Drej, I represent the Klingon Empire here on this station. Welcome to Frontier."
Kagami stepped up next. "And I am Captain Kagami Izumi. Commander of this station. On behalf of the United Federation of Planets, I welcome you."
"Thank you." Minister Kasa replied, the Sonno leader stepping off the platform first. "As I said before I am Minister Kasa, these are Commander Hizer, and Captain Frins." Kasa indicated the two on either side of him. "The three behind them are Engineer Tralis, Scientist Jansna and my bodyguard Ring." The minister finished introductions, each Sonno bowed their heads as their name was mentioned.
Marina offered a warm smile as she greeted their guests. “I’m Lieutenant Marina Kelea, Chief Counsellor of Starbase Frontier. I will be happy to assist with anything you may need while you’re here.”
"Oh Councillor, to what Council do you represent in the Federation and why would you be a Lieutenant?" Kasa asked clearly misheard Kelea's job title as one from his homeworld that is associated with Government positions.
“Ohh forgive me” Marina smiled. “My position as Counsellor is one of a medical professional, I care for the psychological wellbeing of those here. I also see to the comforts of any special visitors to the station, making sure everyone is comfortable and settled in.”
"I am VepKa of the Empire, here to be support of the Station." She bow as is tradition by Humans. "I look forward to future interactions."
Kagami couldn't help but smile. "We have some refreshments available in our main conference lounge." She said indicating to the door. "I have had a selection made for you from both our cultures for you to sample. And we have arranged guest quarters for you on the station to rest and stay."
“We would very much like to learn more about you, and your people. Part of our reason for being here is to meet people from new cultures, and to learn more about them.” Marina smiled warmly.
Kagami led them away towards the conference lounge. It wasn't her first ever 'first contact' but it was unexpected. But this was all part of the adventure with being on a station on the final of final frontiers.
"Oh forgive my misunderstanding," Kasa said to Marina as he followed the station's senior officers to the conference lounge. He smiled at the mention of a banquet full of both Federation and Imperial cuisine. "Thank you," he said.
